Gifted and Talented

Academically gifted education in Horry County Schools is considered part of the identified student's total educational program. The State of South Carolina and the District declares by evaluation and eligibility standards that the gifted child has academic needs that must be met in a differentiated environment.

“The mission of gifted education is to maximize the potential of gifted and talented students by providing programs and services that match the unique characteristics and needs of these students.”

Referal Process

Students can be refered in grades 3 and 4 by parents, teachers and administrators at the beginning of each year. Click here for referal forms and other parent resources.

Any student who is referred for academically gifted and talented programs will take CogAT, an aptitude test, in October.

Please make note that all students in South Carolina are assessed for gifted and talented programs in 2nd grade using CogAT.  Additionally, all 5th grade students in Horry County School District will take the CogAT test.

If your child meets the identification criteria after the assessment, you will receive written notification from the Office of Gifted and Talented Programs.

If you have any further questions about this program and the referral process, please feel free to reach out to Erin Monday, one of our school counselors.
